A-level Film Studies
We are now delivering the new WJEC GCE Film 'A level'. The course is now examined in two exams at the end of the two years. The new course has been broken down into three components. Component 1 & 2 are examined by different exams at the end of the course, Component 3 refers to the practical element. The new qualification has a greater range of set texts and areas of film for study. For example in the first term students would be looking at 'Hollywood since 2005' through the texts 'No Country for Old Men' (Coen Brothers, 2007) and 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' (Zeitlin, 2012) also British Film through the texts 'Fish Tank' (Arnold, 2009) and Trainspotting (Boyle, 1996). Over the period of the course we would also look at a number of areas of film production. The idea is that over the course of the two years a student on the course would become a proficient, independent and informed analyst of the film world.
