The Extended Diploma in Art & DesignThe Extended Diploma in Art and Design is for students who know they would like to pursue a career in art and design but are not sure in what discipline. They will have a taste of everything in the first year and then specialise in the area in which they excel.
Students explore visual and creative processes through a series of projects that develop drawing, thinking, and practical skills in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Specialist workshops and facilities enable students to explore a wide range of subjects such as drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, photography, fashion design and sculpture. This broad approach allows the student to make informed decisions about progression and future careers within the field of art & design. Research and contextual studies underpin the understanding of contemporary and historical developments in art and design; gallery visits and a residential visit to Berlin in year 2 to support this area of study. We teach students how to plan a project and organise time; to work independently and meet deadlines. We provide opportunities to exhibit work and build exciting portfolios. The course is designed to prepare students for a degree or a Higher National Diploma in an art and design subject. Most Extended Diploma students will go on to do a one year Art Foundation Diploma before doing a degree or Higher National Diploma, but some are able to progress directly to degree level study. The qualification has the same academic value as three A levels and will provide the necessary academic points to progress to a degree course. |

What our students say:
After taking Art and Design BTEC at Tallis in Years 10 and 11 there was no doubt that I wanted to take it at Level 3 in the 6th form. I think it definitely helped me in my foundation year at Kingston. The diversity of techniques and materials you get to use in BTEC allows you to have more time to explore and refine your skills. As I progressed from level 2 to Level 3 to Foundation year I found that I was around people who really wanted to be there and supported each other to make each other's work better. Now in my first year of studying photography at Manchester Metropolitan University I feel that I have so many options of what I could do next. I’m planning to look into what kind of work I can do in photography over the summer or next term in Manchester. Right from the start at Tallis I found that being passionate about art helps you achieve at a high level. I’m still proud of pieces I made at Tallis.
