At Tallis we are teaching a newly developed 'Technical' BTEC which focuses on the practical skills employers are so keen recruit. The two year course is assessed through a series of 'units' - ten in total. Of these, two are exam units which, while taken at school are marked by the course provider Pearson. The other units are marked by the teachers on the course.
The unit are delivered synoptically in that they follow the skills learnt to complete a production process. So, the first unit taught in September is in Storyboarding and the Summer unit that year is in Film Production. The course is a level three course and the result is the equivalent to two full A Levels.
The full course name is a BTEC Level 3 National in Creative Digital Media Production (Technical). The possible outcome at the end of the course range from a double distinction star to a double pass. Due to the new structure of the qualification failure to pass a unit means a whole course fail. As a result we urge any student considering this course to ensure that they are good at meeting deadlines.
